Het is bijna een week geleden dat de Erasmusbrug vol stond met demonstrerende Rotterdammers. Sinds de demonstratie wordt er meer gesproken over racisme in de stad. Nu de demonstraties voorbij zijn, proberen een hoop Rotterdammers deze aandacht voor ongelijke behandelingen van Rotterdammers van kleur te behouden.
Kritiek op aflassen demonstratie Rotterdam
De demonstratie heeft veel losgemaakt bij mensen in de stad. Burgemeester Aboutaleb kapte de demonstratie op 3 juni een half uur voor het eind af omdat de coronamaatregelen niet werden nageleefd. Aboutaleb was nergens te bekennen tijdens de demonstratie wat bij veel Rotterdammers in het verkeerde keelgat viel. Lees het hier.
De Rotterdamse afdeling van de politieke partij BIJ1 wil daarom aanstaande donderdag tijdens de raad een aantal vragen aan Aboutaleb en de gemeenteraad stellen. Zo willen ze weten waarom burgemeester Aboutaleb ervoor koos niet aanwezig te zijn bij de demonstratie en willen ze weten welke vervolgstappen de stad gaat nemen tegen racisme in Rotterdam.
Gebeurtenissen rond en na de demonstratie
Voor en tijdens de demonstratie van 3 juni stond Instagram vol met zwarte vlakken met de hashtag #BlackOutTuesday, op het medium ontstaan steeds meer discussies rondom dit onderwerp. Na de demonstraties plaatst de Rotterdamse rapper Winne als een van de eersten een foto met daaronder de tekst “I’M A BLACK MAN”, waarna zangeres Melissa Lopes volgt. In de tekst wordt opgeroepen ook een foto van jezelf te delen met dezelfde tekst en je volgers hierin te taggen.

Twee dagen geleden kwam een live stream online van Top Notch waarin verschillende artiesten met elkaar discussiëren over demonstraties en hun standpunten binnen de Black Lives Matter beweging. Winne was daarin ook te zien en gaf de volgende boodschap mee: “Black lives matter betekent healing voor de community. Als je naar de wereld kijkt als een lichaam, dan is het hart ziek. Black lives matter de operatie van het hart om het weer gezond te krijgen.” In deze livestream wordt nagedacht over hoe aandacht voor ongelijke behandelingen bij mensen van kleur behouden kan worden.
